The Wellington team of Danika Lee, Erika Cui (captain), Yewoo Hyun, Mia Scrimgeour, Dakota Asi, Victoria Li and Charlotte Gillespie, have won the girls Interprovincial championship at Arikikapa Golf Club.
The girls started the week with 4 - 2 wins over Hawkes Bay and Canterbury, followed by a 3 all draw with locals BOP, then a 2 - 4 loss to Waikato, with a must win 5 - 1 victory over Man/Wang qualifying the team into the final with Waikato.
Waikato held a 4.5 - 1.5 advantage after 9 holes, but the girls played superbly around the back 9, especailly down the stretch and when skipper Cui stood on the 18th tee 1up, the team were guaranteed champions. Erika finished with a half on her game to complete the week unbeaten.
Meanwhile in Cambridge the boys team were posting 3 strong wins over Waikato 4.5 - 1.5, Man/Wang 5.5 - 0.5 and Otago 5 - 1, well on track to top qualify for the final, when the event was abandoned due to Covid emerging in the Waikato region. The team of Jayden Ford, Caerwyn Ross, Sam Marsters, Harry Ward, Alec Prentice, Jamie Frew, Dominic Hazeldine and Lane Jiang, had posted great results and it was a real shame their week was curtailed, a cautious approach the nature of the times.
