See & Do
Located in Porirua is the most thrilling adventure park, Adrenalin Forest.  Fun for all ages, there are various challenges and the supervisors won’t stop anyone from trying to push themselves a bit further. If thats a bit too adventurous why not check out the stunning views across the region when you walk up to the summit of Mt Ranghituhi/Colonial Knob.  A great trek for the family or friends looking to get their step count up for the day.

However its not just for the outdoorsy type, Porirua is also the home of the Pataka Art + Museum. Pataka shows the best in contemporary Maori, Pacific Island, NZ and international art. Check out cafe Kaizen inside the museum which over looks a traditional Japanese Garden.

If you are lucky enough to be visiting on a Thursday (in particular the last Thursday of the month) check out the Porirua Night Market.  With  food trucks offering cuisines from around the world, including Turkish, Greek and Japanese, enjoy delicious food while taking in the musical entertainment.
Eat & Drink
Porirua has two harbours, and a number of outdoor activities that will mean you will work up an appetite.  Thank goodness there is a huge range of local eateries serving up scrumptious food.  

If you after somewhere family friendly, then the Whitby Co-op Kitchen & Bar is for you. With plenty of space and an outdoor patio enjoy a burger with glass of wine or craft beer.   Another popular spot for families and Plimmerton locals is The Big Salami, with over 23 pizza varieties you can’t go wrong!

Porirua also homes eateries of international cuisines. Ever tried Polish? Check out Topor New Zealands only polish restaurant.  Located in Plimmerton, the menu features a range of traditional dishes and each one has a suggested vodka match. Or why not check out The Little Goat, which offers high quality food to go.  The owner was born in Cyprus and wanted to give locals a taste of cooking from her home.
LOCAL AUTHORITY
This locally owned pocket-sized cafe gives a real community feel to Porirua.  Pop in before work for a wide range of smoothie options or if coffee is all you are after, you are in good company.  Using Peoples Coffee, they know a good brew with no coffee judgement what so ever, order your soy, double shot chocolate mocha here.
NISH CAFE
In the heart of the Whitby shopping precinct is Nish Cafe.  The owners wanted to blend both their backgrounds of Porirua and New Zealand.  This understanding of the local culture has made this cafe a go-to for residents.  Its well known the Pecan pie is a personal favourite, but the wide ranging menu makes sure you can get your breakfast classics and also vegan and vegetarian options.
BACKYARD CAFE
Have a green thumb? But also love coffee? This is for you! Instead of having to visit a garden store separately do it all in one place. Backyard Cafe is located in Palmers, so never miss out on your caffeine hit while picking up some seeds again.  Check out the abundance of cabinet food (the scones are a must!), while sitting in the outdoor courtyard surrounded by greenery truely is a beautiful escape.
Stay
Porirua is less than a 30minute drive out of the CBD, so why not stay somewhere away from the hustle and bustle but still get to take in some amazing sea views!  Why not stay at Ocean View self-contained apartment thats only a 2 minute walk from the beach and walking distance to local cafes.  If you are after more of a retro-style escape check out this environmental farm stay.  This eco-friendly destination has an outdoor wood fired hot tube, enjoy their selection of home made jams and farm fresh honey, plus being close to Porirua, Hutt Valley and the CBD makes it easy access to other fine dining experiences.
