The Wellington Women’s Masters team travelled to Alexandra Golf Club to challenge for the Russell Grace Trophy over three days 01 – 03 April 2022. The first round was a little hurried with travel delays meant the team arrived just in time for their first round of play.
The tournament was set up originally by a group of Cantabrians who wanted to have a tournament for ‘older’ women who had played for their district at an interprovincial level but were now seeking a format that encompassed women aged 40 plus. The four-round format, scored by gross stableford points pits the 14 districts against each other, where the best three scores per team per round count to the team totals.
Golf Wellington Team included Anna Possenniskie on debut, Jennie Hewett, Carolyn Hawe and Kellie Orchard, and superbly managed by Zabe Orchard. The acquitted themselves well, finishing mid field in 8th place, ahead of notable teams such as Auckland and 2021 champs BOP.
